Three defendants in a multimillion-dollar embezzlement case at one of the city’s leading universities will be tried in Kharkiv.
Since 2012, the vice-rector of one of the Kharkov universities, in collusion with the director of a contracting company, organized a scheme for appropriating budget funds. They employed fictitious employees, including relatives and acquaintances who did not perform any duties, but received salaries and bonuses.
By 2023, due to this scheme, almost UAH 14.3 million was introduced from the university budget. The funds involved were withdrawn from the bank cards of “dead souls” and appropriated.
The three defendants will be tried for seizing large and especially large amounts of budget funds under martial law (parts 4, 5 of art. 191 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
