Will Zhukovsky Avenue be renamed to Shukhevych in Kharkov?

Kharkiv activists appealed to the mayor with an initiative to rename Zhukovsky Avenue in honor of the chief commander of the UPA Roman Shukhevych.

Activists believe that names in honor of Ukrainian heroes should replace surnames associated with imperial or Soviet heritage. In their opinion, Zhukovsky Avenue should be named after Roman Shukhevych, the chief commander of the Ukrainian Insurgent Army, one of the leaders of the liberation movement of the 20th century.

“This year KHAI has already lost the name Zhukovsky in its name. It was the turn of the avenue. He should bear the name of a national hero!”- noted in the NGO ” decolonization. Ukraine”. It is noted that the issue of renaming was discussed at a meeting of the working group on decolonization at the regional administration, but was postponed.
